What we do

Ever passed by one of our offices and watched us dance or saw us in a meeting circle and wondered - what do the Student Association actually do?

In a nutshell, we work on improving the full student experience in a fun and innovative way that engages students to take part. Sometimes, that could mean a wacky dance, an awareness event or one of our serious Student Council Meetings.

Who is the Student Assocation is run by

The Student Association is run by students for students to give students the opportunity to have their say on whatever matters they feel are important.  We do this by:

  • represent students through key events and college groups
  • provide support and training for Class Reps
  • seek feedback from students on key issues and invite them to get in touch with their views.

 

 

Things we do...

 

We organise and faciltiate a number of events throughout the year including Freshers' Fair and Re-Freshers' Fair which are our biggest and most popular events of the year. 

We can also give students advice on setting up their own events and help them to promote these via social media and Teams.

 

We recognise that students’ opinions are very important and they can have a positive input into academic standards and enhance the classroom experience.  Class Representatives ensure that the students’ voice is heard and they play a vital role in contributing both to the quality of learning and teaching and to your overall college experience.

The Student Association manage the Class Reps system by:

  • promoting and monitoring the registration process
  • creating and delivering training to Class Reps

Class Reps are an important part of the Student Association Structure - we regularly keep in contact with our Class Reps by communicating with them throughout the year and keeping them up to date with whats going on within the SA and the College. 

 

FVSA’s Clubs & Societies offer students the chance to develop their interests, network and meet likeminded people. 

The students run all our clubs and societies so activities are shaped by the student and their fellow members.

Groups can be course-based, faith, culture and liberation groups as well as social, interest and hobby based societies. 

Our clubs and societies are also open to all staff to join - the only difference being that the groups must still be student-led. So if you have a hobby or valuable knowledge that might help one of the student groups, please get in touch!

 

Student Council is the decision making body of FVSA which is held twice per year (usually around November and April).

The Student Council meetings are a forum for students to: 

  • hold elected officers to account
  • give feedback on the student experience
  • shape the work of FVSA based on the views from students
  • Submit and vote on motions
  • Vote for changes to the FVSA Constitution*
  • get updates from the Student Association including the FVSA budget
  • meet members of the College Senior Management team and ask them questions/provide feedback

 

*FVSA are responsible to the student body via the constitution, which outlines what FVSA and its members can and cannot do.

 

Volunteering can help develop students skills and interests, meet likeminded people and influence the community and the college! 

Volunteering with FVSA offers a wide variety of different and exciting opportunities that students can fit around their course.

We can offer flexible hours, training to prepare students for the role, rewards and recognition for all their efforts and support from our friendly student officers and staff. 

We offer volunteering through the Student Association in roles such as class rep, executive officer and society convenor. We also work with third sector interfaces from the community to raise awareness of external opportunities - check out our current partners here!
