What a quick January, blink of an eye and we’re into February already! Here’s just some of what I’ve been up to…
Welcome Fair – Block 2
I really hope you were able to attend at least one of the FVSA Welcome Fair events across the campuses. We had so much fun organising these events for you.
These events are a firm favourite amongst the FVSA team, something we definitely look forward to. Interacting and chatting to students is such a positive and informative experience.
We hope you enjoyed the entertainment and the variety of stalls and you managed to pick up some fun freebies and information.
STEP
I was surprised, but extremely happy, to be nominated as one of the leads on this new and exciting project. Session 2024-25 is the first ever year of the first STEP cycle and is its Discovery phase. During the first year, staff and students from other education institutions will come together for a series of Discovery Days to establish collaborative partnerships and design projects that will form the core of the programme.
Between these days, Navigation Sessions will provide momentum, alongside additional supporting activities such as workshops and networking opportunities related to the topic. In developing projects there will be a focus on collaboration, outcomes and impact, forming a cohesive programme of work that involves every college and university in Scotland.
I have now attended two Discovery days and one Networking session. The work involved in these days and sessions is intense and thought provoking, but it is also very rewarding!
Student Mental Health Agreement
The Student Mental Health Agreement has been renewed for January 2025 – January 2027. FVSA and multiple College staff collaborated on the formation of the Action Plan and it has now been confirmed for the remainder of session 2024/25. As one of the leads on this agreement, I feel extremely proud of the work that has been done on this. Student mental health is so important to me and to work with so many passionate people was a truly rewarding experience.
We aim to coincide the launch of the SMHA at FVSA’s Mental Health event in March.
Student Awards
The FVSA Student Awards 2025 event will take place on Thursday 22nd May at Falkirk Campus. Planning is now underway. Award categories have been extended to allow for a Student of the Year to be awarded for each of the departments and a Green Commitment Award.
This event is another favourite event for the FVSA team, enabling FVSA to highlight the amazing work, involvement and talent of the FVC student community.
Look out for upcoming information.
Volunteering Opportunities
FVSA are tentatively beginning to work with organisations to maximise volunteering opportunities for students. This is a slow moving process to ensure we bring you, the Student Community, the most rewarding and relevant opportunities.
Spotlight Channel
I have set up a Teams page to encourage the sharing of stories and to highlight all the good work that goes on throughout the college. This channel can be found in the Student Community channel. If you are involved in, or know of any, work or projects that you feel should be highlighted please get in touch!
First Aid Certificate
I have now gained my First Aid certificate. I have been keen to do this training since I was elected to my Vice President role in 2023. This certificate was attained after attending a 3 day course on Falkirk Campus. I’m very proud of this qualification!
Other things I’ve been involved in…
Board of Management meetings
Board of Management Self evaluation
LMT attendance
Finance Committee meetings
FVSA monthly meetings with principal Kenny MacInnes
