Forth Valley College Student Counselling Service

What is Counselling?

Counselling happens in a safe, confidential space where you can explore any difficulties you are facing with a trusted and qualified counsellor. Their job is to offer you emotional support in a non-judgemental environment to find your own solutions to whatever you bring to your session.

Counselling can help you with: stress and anxiety; low mood and depression; worries about Covid; college and studies; relationship or family difficulties; sleep deprivation; grief & loss; bullying, harassment, discrimination; issues with peers; trauma and forms of abuse; substance use and misuse; eating disorders; exploring issues of gender and/or sexuality; low confidence and self-esteem or any difficulties which have an adverse effect on your educational experience.

How can counselling help?

Counselling is for anyone who needs an impartial and external person to your life to discuss your mental and emotional needs or things that may be getting in the way of you achieving your desired goals.  The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and student is confidential and can help you feel fully heard and understood. The counsellors recognise that we are not all the same and that our different experiences will shape our perspectives.

What does FVC Counselling Service Offer?

FVC provides a confidential service that includes an initial assessment followed by 6 sessions.  Your wait for an assessment and subsequent sessions will depend upon demand.

Sessions with a counsellor are always pre-scheduled and will happen at the same time each week. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a crisis service.

Who will I be speaking to?

Our counsellors Caroline and Shanelle are all qualified and experienced members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk). We are an inclusive and supportive group and strive to create a trusting and healing environment for all students, also taking into consideration the needs of LGBTQ+, Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Disabled students who may be experiencing oppression.
