Stirlingshire Educational Trust was founded in 1663 by local merchants to assist the poor and is now run by a body of Governors. The Trust is a registered charity and exists to give grants for educational purposes to either individuals or organisations from the area of the County of Stirling.
Grants can be awarded in the following categories:
- Post-Graduate Scholarships.
- Supplementary Bursaries – in addition to awards made by the Education Authority.
- Special Grants – for over 21’s.
- John Allan Bursary – for apprenticeships, technical instruction, experience of professions, trades or occupation.
- Travel Scholarships – education out with Scotland
- Travel Grants – educational travel.
- Educational Excursions – school pupils visits, residential excursions.
- Educational Travel – former pupils/Further Education students.
- Special Equipment – for schools in addition to what the Councils are expected to supply.
- Support of Clubs – promoting educational work.
- Adult Education – subsidising courses and individuals.
- Visual Arts – establishing art collections, tuition fees and exhibition expenses.
- Music – equipping choirs/orchestras, tuition fees and performance expenses.
- Drama – equipping drama groups, tuition fees and performance expenses.
- Educational Experiments and Research – for bodies and persons.
Am I Eligible for a Grant?
A grant may be awarded to persons who have been resident in Stirlingshire, either currently or in the past, for a period of at least 5 consecutive years or have been born there. (The County of Stirling includes, for example, Stirling, Falkirk, Kilsyth, Grangemouth, Denny/ Bonnybridge, Polmont and environs but not Dunblane, Callander or Bo’ness - you can contact the office for clarification as to residential qualification).
Notes for applicants
The Governors meet on the 1st Wednesday of June, September, December and March - please ensure your application is made at least 3 weeks before the date of the meeting.
- Awards may be made towards fees, books, travel, equipment, kit etc.
- All applicants will be considered on their merits, taking into account their financial status, i.e. total income of household, personal circumstances, past due diligence and attainment and likely future promise.
- All information given by candidates will be considered as confidential.
- All income from employment must be certified by the employees concerned.
- All sections of the forms must be completed. Incomplete and unsupported applications will be returned.
- Decisions of the Governors of SET are final and not negotiable. It should be noted that SET have limited funds from which to make awards.
